Now I know what to call that tree Dev wears as a hat!
I officially declare its name to be Blood Tree! *smashes a bottle of champaigne on the trunk*

And there's a bit of a background story for how the Devourer originally got the tree into his possession.
The Blood Tree resided on a graveyard, seeping nutrients from the rotting corpses (see eyeflowers as well!), but for some reason Devourer could understand its wish to go and find fresher nutrition for its roots to find. At first the Devourer didn't bother to help the tree but then he learned that it could offer him so much more in return. It started a symbiotic relationship for the two.
When he placed it on his head, it rapidly sunk its roots deep beneath his hair and into his head - but it didn't harm him.
Thus his veins and the tree's roots were connected, only until he took the tree off for a while.

As a parasite on his head, the tree stole part of the nutrition Devourer got from his meals - human flesh. But it would pay off later, as when the Blood Tree blooms, the flowers are dyed red and it emits a soft but enticing aroma which lures people near Devourer. It's hard to tell what the aroma consists of - pheromones, soul particles - but it attracts people like flies.

In the Devourer's eyes, humans are children of light, no matter how dark deeds they have done, they always have an aura of light about them, were it dim or very bright. And he always finds satisfaction in killing the light.
The theory of light applies to the Sun People in its most literal form. They are always warm and caring about their kind. But now the blood blossoms have made them nuts - the air is so full of love that they don't notice the cold beast that eats them up one by one. (with the dimming light inside his belly)

I wonder if he ever has to prune his hat. You know... to keep it from becoming too wispy and have more branches than roots (which can slowly starve any plant or tree to death.)

Why am I even thinking of this stuff?

Oh yeah, because I've over 5 horticulture classes. They've brainwashed me! :fear:

The Aztec word for avocado translates to "Testicle Tree"

Horticulture: more awesome than originally thought.

Actually, he could. 8D That's one way to groom his hat.
And, it would be highly inconvienient to wear a hat that's heavy on the top. XD Plus, the tree demands it every now and then.
Dude. Dev's like some gardener growing a bonsai on top of his head.

This is amazing. One of your best pieces, in my opinion. It's a bit hard to imagine that the Devourer may be a "he", though, but it's my only nitpick.

Thank you.
I know he isn't a he, Dev doesn't have any sexual reproduction system or does he look like either gender at all (he's wearing a mask), but I'm so used to calling Dev a "him" instead of an "it". XD

But hey, one day I'll beat this one! I'll probably laugh at this pic within a year or so. 8D

Hey, I sincerely hope so, but I wouldn't necessarily count on it. I've recently found some old drawings I made when I was your age, and I was much better then than I am now.

Ah... I think I can still develop my skills. But you're right, from the top point there's only one way - and that's straight down.

Well, some of us never actually reached the top point, but I see what you mean! :D

I like the mood, so autumn'y and happy in a peaceful way, yet kind of scary/twistred/sad if you know what is going on.

I love creepy faces. :D Dev must be the only monster I've created with most variety in sizes from 7-foot-tall beast to a two-story house high monstrosity.

Ah... I sure hope the admins won't mind. :o I'm a bit nervous since the policy forbids any sexual act ... I'm a bit at a loss what I should do. It would be a shame to lose a good drawing for such a trivial and yet so important detail. I mean ... it needed a touch of flesh to it! otherwise it'd feel a bit colder. I just felt like adding some young couple have more fun than others who just ...chill. And eventually get eaten.

I think I love that tree now. 8D
